CARRIE GARRAWAY

Practice Manager

I graduated from Cambrian College in 1996 with a degree in Medical Office Administration. I had the honour of working for Midwives of York Region for 15 years as their Office Manager. I recently moved to Port Severn and was ecstatic to continue my midwifery career with Midland Midwives By The Bay.

I feel truly blessed to work with such incredible ladies and the most fulfilling part of my career as always been you and your families. I truly look forward to helping you in your journey through pregnancy and postpartum.

When I am not in the office I enjoy reading, long walks on our property and cruising around Georgian Bay in our boat.

ELIZABETH SCHONEWILLE

Registered Midwife

My name is Elizabeth. I am a settler born of English ancestry. As a child I split my time between the traditional territories of the Haudenosaunee and Anishnaabeg peoples and the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek peoples, also known as Brantford and Sudbury. As an adult I have lived in many different communities from big cities to small towns. I have found I prefer the small-town life and so it is a privilege to be moving to the traditional and treaty territory of the Anishinaabek people, also known as Midland.

Before becoming a Midwife, I enjoyed a 10-year career in business. I completed my first degree in Commerce at Laurentian University. The decision to become a Midwife was driven by a desire to do more purposeful, face to face, community-based work. In 2015 I began the Midwifery Education Program at Ryerson University. While diligently working at acquiring the clinical skills of Midwifery, I also directed my learning at providing specialized maternity care to young parents. This career change to Midwifery has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. As a child I always knew I wanted to be a “baby doctor” but never could I have known how fulfilling it would be to be a Midwife. As a healthcare provider I very much enjoy supporting new families, encouraging body autonomy, and providing informed choice.

I am an animal lover with 4 pets at home. I play soccer and have joined the local Roller Derby team. I also enjoy reading and am working at becoming a knitter.

EMILY ROTH

Registered Midwife

My name is Emily and I have been practicing as a midwife since 2015. I came into midwifery after working on a research project at McMaster University during my first degree in kinesiology. I fell in love with the holistic approach midwifery provides to pregnant people. I believe strongly that every pregnant person deserves to be supported and empowered to make their own decisions regarding their healthcare. Serving as an advocate during this time in someone’s life is extremely rewarding to me and I love seeing how people embrace this.

I am beyond thrilled to be joining Midland Midwives by the Bay as moving to the area has always been a dream of mine. I previously practiced at Countryside Midwives; which is where my passion for rural midwifery was born and my comfort and skill in protecting birth as normal and physiological developed. I grew up on a farm just outside Kitchener Waterloo, so this area is new to me, but I am so excited to be able to enjoy the active outdoor lifestyle it can provide. When I am off call you will likely find me outside walking, running or hiking with my dog Arlow.

KELSEY MURRAY

Hello! My name is Kelsey Murray. I have been practicing midwifery in the GTA since 2019, and am very excitied to be starting with the Midland Midwives by the Bay. My partner and I have been looking for a more rural setting to call home, and what place better than the shores of beautiful Georgian Bay!

Prior to completing the Midwifery program at McMaster university, I studied biomedical science at the University of Guelph. In 2013 I embarked on a volunteer experience in labour and delivery in Ghana, West Africa, which sparked an interest in maternity care. It was there that I attended my first delivery, and worked with local midwives. I have been passionate about women’s reproductive health and obstetrical care ever since. It is important to me to offer holistic, client-centred care through a feminist lens.

I am also a trained chef, and hold a diploma of culinary arts from the Stratford Chefs School. In my off-call time, I enjoy cooking, outdoor sports, travelling, and curling up with tea and a good book! I am excited to be joining the team, and look forward to meeting the families I will be caring for.

KIM ALDERDICE

Registered Midwife

Georgian Bay holds a special place in my heart. My paternal great grandfather worked at the Midland grain elevators and my maternal grandmother was born Oro Medonte. My family went on to spend our summers at Bluewater Beach and winters skiing at Blue Mountain. So needless to say it is no surprise I have made routes here.

The first delivery I ever saw was a calf being born! I had a childhood dream that I would deliver babies (not cows!) but I took a detour and ran my own business while earning a commerce degree in economics and finance from the University of Guelph. I then went onto graduate from McMaster’s Midwifery Program in 2015 and consolidated my midwifery skills in Mississauga before heading North. Founding Midland Midwives By The Bay with my practice partners brought my two passions together: running a small business and delivering babies. I feel very blessed to be doing exactly what I love to do and I hope this is conveyed as I interact with my colleagues, consultants and most importantly my clients.

When I am present at your birth and/or in your home in those early days postpartum please know that I feel very honoured and privileged. The uncertainty of birth work has been very humbling and often reminds me daily to stay present in the moment. It is an adventure to wake up, go on call and truly not know where the day will take me. My partner and 2 year old are still getting used to the on call nature of my/our life but it does allow for us to sometimes be in our pjs together all morning!

LEDA MCDONALD

Registered Midwife

I grew up in a farming community near Kingston. I moved to Midland in 2016 after graduating from the Midwifery Education Program at Laurentian University. In 2022 I decided to take some time off-call and have been working at the Georgian Bay Women’s Clinic to focus on bringing the midwifery model of care to sexual health outside of routine perinatal care. This work is the perfect mix of everything I am passionate about: reproductive rights, health education, harm-reduction, and celebration of the messy, magical world of sexuality!

In my life before midwifery I worked and volunteered extensively with social justice organizations addressing addiction, gender-based violence, poverty, and LGBTQ2SA+ rights. I have seen and heard it all! I aim to meet my clients where they are at, and to provide health care that gets them what they need without judgment, so they can live the lives they want to live.

When I’m not in clinic you can usually find me in the garden.

LYNNE-MARIE CULLITON

Registered Midwife & Lactation Consultant

I am very happy to be continuing to offer midwifery services in the Midland area as I have been since 2008, when I started Midwives Nottawasaga. Through my work with that practice, it became apparent that families of the Midland and area needed their very own midwifery practice. Since 2018, I have enjoyed working with Kim and Leda and our ever expanding practice to make this a reality and so pleased that Midland Midwives By the Bay has finally come to fruition.

I am currently working in our Breastfeeding and Postpartum Clinic, a community clinic open to everyone, not just midwifery clients. I am also working on setting up the Early Pregnancy Clinic, which we hope to launch in 2022. While I am sad to not be working directly with birthing clients at this time, I am happy to bring some much needed services to provide local care to all.

I graduated from McMaster University Midwifery Education Programme in 2002 and have been working as a rural midwife since; first in Owen Sound, then in Collingwood and now here! Since starting work, I have remained involved in activities outside my clinical responsibilities. I am a clinical preceptor with the Midwifery Education Programme and serve as the Head Midwife at Georgian Bay General Hospital. I am very much dedicated to bringing birth back to the community and keeping our unit open.

MÉLISSA BOIZOT-ROCHE

Registered Midwife

The first birth I ever attended was the birth of my sister, at home, when I was three years old. At the time, it did not seem unusual that such a special event would take place in the comfort of our home. Though I later realized that this was far from the norm, this memory shaped my understanding of birth as a natural part of life.

It is that perspective that I brought to my first degree, at UBC, a Bachelor of Science in Global Resource Systems with a focus on women’s health. It became clear to me that not all parents have the options my family had, and that not every woman has the support she needs to make her own choices regarding her body, her health and her family.

Wanting to support women and their families, I studied midwifery in French at Laurentian University, and worked as midwife in Toronto and in Huron County before making the move to Georgian Bay in 2020. I spent many summers here as a child and it has been a joy to rediscover the area!

When I’m not catching babies, you might find me hiking, exploring, snowshoeing, reading or playing the fiddle.I am happy to provide care in French and English.

Registered Midwife

Boozhoo! Ookishkimaanisii nidizhnikaas, waabizheshkii nidoodem, Neyaashiinigmiing nidonjibaa.

I grew up in my community of Neyaashiinigmiing, part of the Saugeen Ojibwe Nation, which is on the other side of Georgian Bay on the Saugeen Peninsula. I had been interested in supporting birthing people through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum since I heard stories of my great-grandmother who was a midwife in my community. This guided me to doula work and finally the Midwifery Education Program at Ryerson University in Toronto. My training has primarily been in Toronto and Thunder Bay.

I graduated in 2021 and I am so excited to join Midland Midwives as I begin my career as a midwife! Midwifery brings me so much joy and it is such an honour to support clients through such an important time in their lives. I especially love working with Indigenous families to provide culturally safe care, reclaim our birthing and parenting traditions, and bring birth back to our communities. My other interests include baking, (re)learning Anishinaabemowin, and being on the land with my dog.
